What to do?

People like you purchase insurance protection hoping you'll never have to call on your policy. If you do, though, you'll find out the value of the protection you have purchased.

At North Blenheim Mutual, we've worked hard to develop a reputation for superior claims service with personal concern. Claims service that's caring, fast and fair.

Whether you're a farmer, homeowner, tenant or small business owner, we'll be here when you need us most. Our claims adjusters will take the time to explain your coverage, suggest qualified local service providers, get you started on repairs or replacement, and offer you the necessary financial assistance as provided by your policy. We guarantee honest answers on coverage and compassionate understanding.

For all property and liability losses, contact one of our agents, or our office. This ensures that an adjuster will be assigned as early as possible. A prompt and fair loss adjustment is easier when the damages are seen before repairs begin.

What to Do in the Event of a Loss
If you feel that you have a loss that is covered by your policy, follow these steps:

  • Make every effort to secure your property and prevent further loss
  • If the loss is due to theft, burglary, robbery, vandalism or malicious acts, notify the police or other authorities.
  • For all property and liability losses, contact your agent, broker or our office. This ensures that an adjuster will be assigned as early as possible. A prompt and fair loss adjustment is easier when the damages are seen before repairs begin.
  • In the case of livestock apparently killed by lightning, electricity, drowning or entrapment, call our office, your agent or broker. Then notify your veterinarian before moving the carcass. A veterinary necropsy report, stating the cause of death, will be required. (If the loss is insured, we will pay the veterinary fee.)

In the Event of an Automobile Accident

  • Turn off the ignition and turn on your emergency flashers.
  • Ensure there is no traffic from either direction before leaving your vehicle.
  • Get immediate help for anyone who is injured. DO NOT move a victim unless the person is in immediate danger. Try to keep the injured person warm.
  • DO NOT allow anyone to smoke, light a match or place lighted flares near the vehicle(s) in case of a fuel leak.
  • Call the police, give the exact accident location and inform them of any injuries or unusual circumstances (e.g. spilled chemicals).
  • Do your best to warn approaching traffic by setting up flares or other warning signals far enough way from the accident scene.
  • Don't discuss who is to blame. Just do your best to note the accident details, such as date, time, location, and the name, driver's license and plate numbers of the driver.
  • If your vehicle is not driveable, make the necessary arrangements to have it towed to the nearest garage in the area that has a safe compound.
  • Don't be persuaded to sign work orders for repair shops you are not familiar with. Wait until you have spoken to one of our trained claims staff.

REPORT INSURANCE FRAUD

Preventing, controlling and prosecuting insurance fraud has become a major issue for all insurers. The cost of this crime is paid by all policyholders.

Insurers have a responsibility to reduce the costs of insurance fraud. North Blenheim Mutual is a supporting member of the Canadian Coalition Against Insurance Fraud. Under the Anti-Fraud Protocol, we have agreed to establish and support anti-fraud initiatives. We know that all our policyholders will support these measures and the savings that will eventually be realized. We are committed to serving the needs of all honest policyholders.
