Auto Insurance in Ontario is changing. The new reforms mean that standard coverage has been reduced,
But You Have A Choice…
If you are renewing your policy or taking out a new policy on or after September 1, 2010, Ontario’s Auto Reforms are affecting you. You can return to the level of coverage you had or to higher levels, by contacting your agent, who has been trained to guide you through the changes.
Are Standard Benefits Enough For You?
In an effort to create a greater understanding and help you compare your coverage before and after the changes, we would like to emphasize a few key points.
The Medical Rehabilitation Benefit has been reduced by 50% for non-catastrophic injuries (from $100,000 down to $50,000), and now the fees and expenses for conducting assessments, examinations and preparing reports is also payable within these limits, reducing it even further.
Attendant Care has been reduced by 50% for non-catastrophic injuries (from $72,000 down to $36,000). At the maximum of $3,000 per month, that would provide approximately 12 months of coverage for the cost of an aide or attendant to look after you.
The Housekeeping & Home Maintenance Benefit is no longer included except if your injury is deemed catastrophic, unless you choose to purchase it.
The Caregiver Benefit is no longer included except if your injury is deemed catastrophic, unless you choose to purchase it. (This option is applicable if you or a family member is providing full time care to dependants.)
